Our Story

Obscura - Art, Tattoo + Body Mod. Studio opened in February 2022. Owner & artist Taryn Elise began her tattooing journey over 15 years ago, slowly expanding her knowledge, technical skills, & beloved clientele. She finally had the opportunity to open her first studio in 2018 with best friend & custom clothing designer Jackii Ramis. The Studio Phantasmagoria Art Collective is located in Rockaway Beach, NY. Expanding quickly, this was around the time that artist Amanda Leigh joined the team.

Amanda, Taryn's first apprentice, has now been with Taryn for five years and has been tattooing professionally for the past two+ years. Excelling in a variety of styles, her favorites are micro-details, fine and single line pieces, and anime based projects.

Flash forward a few years-- While TSP was an amazing experience, Taryn & Jackii parted ways to explore new opportunities in 2022. It was then that Taryn found Obscura, or as she likes to say, Obscura found her: the opportunity to open the private custom studio she had always imagined right in her hometown of Long Beach, NY.

Since then, resident body piercer Brittany Block has joined the team, and Taryn has taken on a new apprentice, Lilly Marinelli. Taryn loves the art of tattooing more than life itself and is honored to continue serving her loyal clients, old and new, creating beautiful art for all to share in the warm, inclusive, and inviting space she and the Obscura Team call home.

With new adventures always on the horizon, Taryn and the Obscura Team are now offering another way to be a part of Obscura. Their newest project, The Tattoo Mentorship Program has recently launched... An all-inclusive, intensive five (5) week mentorship opportunity hosted at Obscura by your Obscura girls!
